Coffee Wood Dog Chews and the Hypoallergenic Claim, What Your Label Can Say

What is in a coffee wood chew, what it was tested for, and which lines you can safely put on your listing. For Amazon sellers building their own brand. Published November 2, 2026.

Short answer: we don't call our coffee wood chews hypoallergenic, and we don't call them zero calorie. We have no allergy or nutrition testing for the chew, so we make neither claim. What we can show is what is in it. One piece of coffee wood, with no glue, no coating and no added flavor. We add no meat, dairy or grain to the chew.

A Coffee Wood Chew Is a Toy, Not Food

On our export documents, this product is declared as Wooden Pet Toy. That is also how we see it. A dog chews on it for a while. It does not eat it.

Calories, protein and allergies are questions about food. When a pack says "zero calorie", many buyers read it as "safe to eat, and it won't make my dog fat". A piece of wood should not be read that way, so we don't write that line for you.

Our lab testing is on the toy side too. Our coffee wood chews have an SGS heavy metal test under ASTM F963-23, section 4.3.5, the US toy safety standard. All 8 elements tested (lead, antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, mercury and selenium) were not detected. The lab is VILAS accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. This result covers our coffee wood chews only. It does not cover our hemp or coco coir toys.

What Is in a Coffee Wood Chew

MaterialIn the chew?
Trunk of Robusta coffee trees 20 years and older, from Dak Lak and Gia LaiYes. It is the only ingredient
Glue, ink, oil or wax coatingNo, also for chews with a laser engraved logo
Added flavor, meat, dairy or grainNone added
Vacuum bagYes, as packaging. It sits outside the chew

The wood comes from old coffee trees that farmers take out when they replant their farms. Each chew is a natural piece of wood, so the grain and color differ a little from chew to chew.

Why We Don't Write "Hypoallergenic" for You

Writing the word is easy. But it goes on your listing, not on our documents. If someone with an allergy-prone dog buys because of that word, and the dog still reacts, the 1-star review sits under your brand.

Dogs can react to many things, and we are not vets. We don't know which dog will do well with wood. What we know is our process at the workshop, so we only give you lines we can back up with data.

Lines you can use on your listing, based on our data:

  • "Single ingredient: coffee wood."
  • "No glue, no coating, no added flavor."
  • "Heavy metals tested by SGS, 8 elements not detected (ASTM F963-23, 4.3.5)."

If your brand wants to add an allergy, calorie or health claim, the proof is the brand's job. Check the rules in the market you sell in before you print the box.

Keeping the Chew Dry From Workshop to Warehouse

A chew that gets moldy on the way is no longer a single ingredient chew. So we check moisture at the workshop, and a chew must read below 14% before it is packed. Then each chew is vacuum-sealed to hold that level. The trip by sea across the Pacific takes about 28 to 45 days, which is long enough for open wood to take in moisture again.

The two photos below are from one of these checks. One chew read 13.4%, another read 11.6%. What we guarantee is no insects and no mold.

Moisture meter reading 13.4% on a coffee wood dog chew at the workshop
Moisture check before vacuum sealing. This chew read 13.4%.
Moisture meter reading 11.6% on a coffee wood dog chew from the same batch
Another chew from the same check, 11.6%. Below 14% before packing.

A chew also needs to fit the dog. See our size guide by dog weight. We suggest one more line on your listing that reminds owners to watch their dog while it chews, and to replace the chew once it gets small. More on drying in our guide to coffee wood moisture control.
